The Everyday Sniper Episode 154 NDs, Safety, PRN Video
So a video was posted by Joel of the Precision Rifle Network regarding a situation he filmed at an event this past weekend. The shooter during a string of fire had an ND on the line, hid it, and in fact took an extra point. The video was being used to highlight a trend he has been noticing where safety has been falling by the wayside. He wanted to reverse this trend but instead was himself attacked.
Safety is everyone's responsibility and should be job one at a Match. We are in close proximity to one another with high powered rifles. An accident intentional or otherwise can cause a lot of damage. There have to be rules in place and those rules must be enforced.
I don't do this to point to the series, but rather in defense of Joel's actions as I feel he did the right thing the right way and he was being put on blast because of it.
Safety, the 4 rules alone can be enough if you bother to enforce them.
Thanks for listening and sharing and hope we all do better tomorrow.
Cheers,

Great episode. I used to have a hunting partner that would flip the safety off the second he saw a deer even if it was a doe, and then leave it off. I watched him flag me with the muzzle with a round in the chamber and safety off! I called him on it several times until I finally had to stop hunting with him. I don't give a shit how excited you are, you don't take the safety off until you're ready to shoot!

Great topic. They should add another rule for failing to report an ND. Maybe DQ for next 3 matches or penalize the entire squad... Nobody will hide an ND for a buddy if there match score is dqed and/or gets no points for next matches.

Preach, I want to shoot a match but I’m working to much. My belief is they may not like the messenger, but if the content of the message is the truth, the messenger is meaningless. Fix the problem. Again, thanks for all the crap you put up with!

It's good that you guy's are making this known. I have only shot 2 PRS style matches and they were only club level matches. There are alot of shooters that are higher profile shooters that are well known throughout the PRS community that shoot these in between national matches. I saw a shooter on more of a speed run the bolt fast 2 shots prone on the target to move to the barricade close the bolt and went for the trigger and had an ND. He was aiming down range at the target when it happened but he didn't mean to pull the trigger. I know this because he missed and said fuck as it happened. As the new guy I looked around and no one said anything. So I said nothing not trying to be that guy and have enemies as the new guy trying to get in good with these higher profile shooters. As shooters we need to keep ourselves in check and check others when it comes to safety and this will only help fix the problem.

Thank you Joel for your work at these events. Your intent is to make the event fun and safe. And Frank you are always causing hate and discontent. You do a great job bringing up the nature what is wrong with some of these matches. Kept it up. Don't let down your values.
