The Everyday Sniper Episode 222, 100 Yard Zeros
Welcome to 2020 and the first new episode of the new year. We are excited to be back and I want to jump right in with precision rifle training.
In this new years' episode I have two areas of focus:
- 100 yard zeroing
- managing your data
I believe every rifle 338 and smaller should have a 100 yard zero. Thinking about this, I also want to look at the type of target we use to zero that may have a bearing. With this in mind, I have been looking at both target design and how we use them. Any way we slice it, we have to work at 100 yards and that work we do there is important. It sets the tone for the rest of our shooting. If we have good groups centered up, we are money, if we are off-center and opened up bigger than a minute, we may run into some trouble down the road.
I want to be efficient when teaching students at 100 yards. It can be boring so it's important to focus on tasks being put forth vs just trying to get the round count up.
I am considering too, the type of target, circles vs the square, vs a diamond, as I think it matters.
Next is managing your data, I made a post on Sniper's Hide about managing your data so be sure to check it out. I think it will help some put down their phones and think about the work to be accomplished.
Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing thanks for being a part of the Everyday Sniper Podcast

Awesome episode to come back to after being away from listening for a bit, lots to catch up on!!! Preferably diamonds or circles for gongs and plinking. For paper, a circle inside a square with a grid or cross hair have personally found helps on it makes it super easy to line up on circle on paper.

*.036 center dot*

I personally shoot at .88” square pasters. I quarter them with an ink pen. This allows my .36 center dot to be centered easily in a quarter.

I also vote on diamonds.

I like that mindset of aim small, miss small. I think if you are forced to shoot at a smaller target you sort of mind fuck yourself into knowing you only have that choice to hit that quarter inch diamond or whatever the shape may be, rather than having 3/4 of an inch to an inch circle or diamond or whatever the shape may be. I think it makes a lot of sense to make that center aiming zone as small as you can possibly tolerate. Great podcast today and happy new year, thanks for keeping me awake on my shitty work commute. Cheers.

I vote diamonds but i want one of those ginormous sheets with 50 or so of them on it. You should add A, B, C, D... along one side and 1, 2, 3, 4... Along the top to make it easier to take notes on which group was what ammo or assign a shooter to "D6"... You could have one version with plenty of space between for new shooters and one version with them close for dialing in loads.

Also like the diamond. Might make life easier if you had your target columns different colors. Might make life easier for the shooter when you give them a number AND a color to be shooting at. I did enjoy the scope tracking target with the animals on it. Seemed like a good idea for getting newer shooters used to dialing and learning their scope.
