The Everyday Sniper Episode 86 Passion vs Payout
So I have been getting a lot of feedback regarding the PRS talk in the Gunwerks episode. So I wanted to address it as best I could. I have been getting a lot of calls on the subject of the PRS and my take on the ROI etc.
So without wanting to go down the rabbit hole, I venture anyway and hopefully put this to bed. I really have no interest in discussing the PRS as a series anymore. I have no issue with talking competition I just dont want to venture down this path. It's not productive and I am not a member, nor am I hosting a match that belongs to a series.
I appreciate the passion, but I am gonna check out of this discussion.

Perception is reality and no matter what you do you need to look outside your bubble.

If I may, I would like to draw a parallel, as I see it between two shooting sports: PRS and IPSC. IPSC didn't used to be the "equipment race" like it is now. I dont think anyone would honestly argue that there is anything "Practical" about IPSC anymore. This was the major underlying factor in the creation of IDPA. I see the PRS evolving in the way IPSC did. This perspective is from the outside looking in, as I've never shot a PRS match, but do follow the trends in it. It is something that keeps me from even wanting to participate, as well as many of my family and friends. I will admit that Frank's Alaska classes appeal more to me and my friends and family, because the FOCUS is not on gamesmanship, but fundamentals and making marksmen. The attitude exhibited at some matches, I think, is where PRS matches are losing potential participants. I hope the dark cloud overshadowing the PRS culture someday lifts and people aren:t intimidated to show up at a match because of either attitude or gamesmanship. Best of luck fellas, and no hard feelings.

Return on investment reply: I won a $200 gift certificate to GPG-Great Plains Guns, that paid for my tax stamp for my suppressor. It ended up being a bigger prize because they took my photographs, finger prints, and processed ALL the paperwork for me for free. What I try to do is, EVERYTIME they post something about their business on social media, I give every post a like and share, just trying to spread the word with free advertisement. If I post a picture or a video on social media with their stuff, I tag them in it. When I come across posts looking for recommendations, if I can't tag the business, I tag the owners so they can do what ever they need to do. I try my best to support their business by buying as much stuff from them as I possibly can. Your return with me is free advertisement, as much as I can for as long as I can. I don't know how else to show appreciation for a business or to help them the way they probably helped me.... If there is something more I can do, then please, spill the beans!!!

I've only watched one match and as a new guy on the scene I didn't feel overly welcomed. Out of all the guys there I only had one engage in conversation with me when I asked questions. The PRS is a small piece of the industry they may steer the direction but that's only influencing it. Guys like me are what's make it grow. I have a few full price GA guns with Badger,Nightforce, Atlas! If there was a better chance for myself and the few guys I shoot with to win a prize and it was a more welcome setting I feel there would be a bigger push to get involved. When a new shooter searches for info on the net they find Frank and he is a megaphone. I don't agree with everything he says but it does need to be more inviting, if your not growing your dying. Getting the kids involved is a great angle people spend money on their kids!! I've been a gun guy since was a little kid . There are probably lots like me who need to get in the game and I think Frank is trying to open and or keep that door open. Just an outsider's view. Thanks to you guys for pushing the game and driving innovation and thanks to Frank for putting out info to help new shooter's find their way.

PRS is turning into ar15.com. They want to look like they're king of the mountain when everyone I've heard lately say their numbers are down at the big matches
