The Everyday Sniper Podcast: Bridging Training and Competitions
This is a hard episode for me to define presently. I spent a day this week with Chris Way who has the Kraft YT channel and is shooting Assassins Way. Chris a newish precision rifle competitor who is local to me and very scientific in his approach to competition and training. Chris created a drill that tests a shooter at different positions on a standardized target in an attempt to record data.
Each shooter is different, so seeing how they perform can give us valuable information when it comes to both teaching and learning precision rifle shooting. I like the way Chris approaches this, so try his drill and post the results on SH.
I think the listeners will find a few nice nuggets in this episode. Meeting with new people opens up your perspectives on things. It forces you to change your way of thinking, which is a good thing.
Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing, and thanks for commenting

I like your thinking on the shadow score idea. I've shot 2 matches in the last year and used them as training since there's not much in the way of training around here. They could make a separate class for the trainer class guys

Frank, I think a way to introduce new people to the sport and to the matches. Is to omit their name from the final tally and just have a shooter number in place of the new shooters name that doesn't want to compete and or care about National level points.

Good work Frank. Maybe use a couple of the portable F class electronic targets and see the results on an ipad in a training program from all of the positions. Keep up the good content.

As a new guy trying to learn id love the idea of saving a little cash and shooting unregistered. Its hard for me to convince the boss lady that me driving 3 hours and paying $100 to shoot a match I'm not competitive in is worth the money. I shot trap competitively in college. A lot of it was registered but there was also the little fun leagues that cost less and was for nothing more than bragging rights at the club house.

Solid ideas with the comps and bringing in more people by not making it about paying to be judged next to the big dogs! I for one am all for that!

I really liked your idea of a bunny Lane… Maybe a close target versus a farther target, or a big target for beginners and a small target for advanced. It would be easy for the official to score differently for advanced versus beginners.

I am really excited to see how you balance your new approach in 2021. The mile high class had zero wasted space in my opinion, so I’m really excited to see what tweaks you implement this coming year!

Sorry for the double post but I was trying to edit and sent it by mistake. The ability to filter and sort is huge for users, especially as the site grows. Suffice it to say, I really like what you’re doing. Thanks for such a great resource!
